Here and now. Don’t dismiss or ignore your emotions. It is important to feel all that comes your way. Be intentional; look for ways to creatively express your feelings. Whether you write, draw, paint, sew, cook, collage, or garden, or want to try something new, there is an endless list of creative avenues to explore.
Open your heart and senses to what surrounds you. Nature gently hugs your entire body – get outside. Notice the sky, trees, flowers, birds, fields, meadows, paths, rocks, seashells, streams, and so much more. Take it in, soak in the openness, and let that hug completely, tenderly, and warmly wrap around you.
Permission to feel. Give yourself permission to cry or be angry, and yes, permission to laugh. Allow yourself to feel and be when emotions happen. It will hurt at times, even the laughter may take you by surprise, but allow these healing moments for yourself. Soon you will notice more smiles than tears.
Engage with others. Volunteer. Serve. Connect. Communicate. Attend therapy. Join a support group. Find a church community. Help at a shelter or donate needs for a community agency. Everyone everywhere needs someone at sometime. Don’t isolate yourself; you are not alone on this journey.
There is hope in the hurt and joy in the journey. It’s not a race, there’s not a formula, and it’s not always easy. You courageously take one step at a time and walk towards healing. Soon you will be able to look back, reflecting on where you were and how far you’ve come. With the path in front of you, know that you never have to walk it alone, because of HOPE.
